Craziest Roller Coaster

May. 19, 2009 1 Comment Posted under: crazy

This is the Eejanaika Roller Coaster in Japan. Before you scoff and say that looks fairly tame, note that the seats have no ground, so you’re legs are hanging, and the seats are fully independent of each other, plus the ride goes backwards and partway thru, there are no tracks beneath you, all you see is the open air.it’s also a “4th Dimension” coaster, “a design in which the seats can rotate forward or backward 360 degrees in a controlled spin.

This is a beautiful teak chaise lounge from Diamond Teak that would surely add some class to you patio or outdoor living area. Well here is another fine patio furniture offering from the masters of wood work that has a very unusual concept.

Pablo Reinoso has created this bench being partly a normal bench and partly spaghetti. And the result is rather amazing.

This bench does not transform, is not plush and cushioned, curved or adjustable – it is simply a remarkable work of bench design integrating simple materials to create a slick form that also accommodates a planter .As the renderings show, it can be lined up with others but is almost more elegant alone.

Hello Stranger’s concave form encourages sociability but leaves open the option to sit apart. Used in multiples, Hello Stranger bench can be used to create interesting layouts that encourage different forms of interaction. Hello Stranger consists of a tough stainless steel frame together with a seat insert available in a variety of materials, from hardwoods to metals and plastics.

As an accessory to their eco-friendly display systems Wild card Creative have introduced this cool cardboard bench to their product range. Wildcard Creative have created bench made of 99% recycled card that is 100% recyclable.

It’s not uncommon to have a stack of newspapers sitting around; but it took the ingenuity of designer Charles Kaisin to turn a pile of old news into durable seating. The brilliance behind Kaisin’s Newspaper Extendable Bench is the lack of processes required to turn the raw materials into a functional piece of furniture that still resembles its original form).

Section is a series of modular home benches created by Derek Chen for Council Design. The concept is to let the home owner create the arrangement of their choosing. This modular approach allows us to be the innovative ones and determine the look we want to create. You can see the varying contrasts in color and stain available creating many possibilities.

Using traditional construction methods and beautiful materials, the beau bench is designed to maximize comfort and beauty in its naturally flowing form.

This  bench is placed at British Library.

Designed by Bannavis Andrew Sribyatta for PIE, the Bamboo Eye Bench is hand-crafted with fine attention to detail. The smooth, sensous curves exhibit an Asian inspired minimalism that feels right at home in the contemporary world.

Crazy Watches from Japan

May. 17, 2009 No Comments Posted under: Crazy Tech

Everyone knows that Japanese live on their own time. Their culture is alternatively more fast-paced and intense than the rest of the western world (like in urban areas), or more relaxed and introspective (like a Japanese garden). Knowing these idiosyncrasies, one Japanese company “Tokyo Flash” sells absolutely marvelous and really bizarre watches. These watches display time in bar code, Morse code, audio equalizer simulation, and even in performance rating system, used in figure skating. They are made with the smallest LED lights available and are currently highly in-demand around the world. They fulfill every kind of purpose, except clearly telling the time. A few examples from their catalog:

Some prefer the sound of crashing waves and beach access.  In that case check into the Skye Lighthouse, in Scotland. Photo courtesy of Jon & Allison.

Traveler’s with a Tarzan complex should feel right at home in the Ariau Amazon Towers Hotel (The Tree Top Lodge) in Brazil. Catwalks (around 4 miles of them) 70ft in the air connect the different towers including the dining room and the bar. The Honeymoon suite practically floats 100ft up in a mahogany tree. The place is full of amazing wildlife (including sloths and monkeys). Located just 35 miles from Manuas, Brazil, the hotel is built entirely at the level of the rainforest canopy. The experience is great for the whole family and children up to 10 that are sharing a room with parents or guardians are free (including meals).

Pipe-dreaming, Austria’s Drain Pipe Hotel. Only 15 dollars a night for a room in a Latvian prison. Not bad. I’m sure you could figure out a way to stay there cheaper.

This underwater hotel, slated to be finished in 2010.A 7 story hotel will open in Istanbul, Turkey. This might start a whole thread of new underwater hotels and maybe even fork out to new underwater cities.Visitors to Istanbul will soon have a chance to view the most spectacular ocean views on the planet. A seven floor, seven-star hotel is being built underwater on what was formerly a tobacco factory. There will be exhibition halls, and restaurants, and all rooms will be sea facing.

Due to open in 2009, this incredible $730-million Hydropolis will be submerged 20 metres below the Persian Gulf.

If you just want more than just a little local color, go to Kuala Lumpur for a rainbow-like stay.  I think it looks like a child’s painting, full of whimsy.

Guests may find their teeth chattering at the Snow Hotel in Kemi, Finland.

Fancy living like a hobbit, Beckham Creek Cave Haven. Beckham Creek Cave Haven is equipped with state of the art technology to ensure guests don’t have to live like Neanderthal man.

Facing the Caspian Sea, the buildings are named Hotel Full Moon – a disc with rounded edges and a hole in one of the top corners – and Hotel Crescent, a curving arch similar to a crescent moon – and will mark out an area appropriately named Full Moon Bay. Weird but also wonderful are the Cappadocia Cave Suites in Turkey, carved during Hittite, Byzantine and Roman days, but now used as lodging. Your ancient room, nestled among caves used as places of worship, includes wifi and an espresso machine.

If you prefer more action, nightlife and well, gambling then Las Vegas offers all sorts of strange hotels, with the most wierd and my favorite– the Luxor.  It is so American to think we can replicate the pyramids.

A hotel dog lovers will particularly enjoy, the Dog Bark Park Inn is a hotel located in Cottonwood, Idaho, Some of the decorations and furniture inside the hotel are made by an artist to fit in with the hotel’s theme.

The Ice Hotel is created anew each year out of 15,000 pounds of snow and 500 pounds of ice. The 34-room hotel features an ice chapel, two art galleries and a host of outdoor activities. The temperature inside the hotel ranges from 23 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit, and the beds are carved from ice. You don’t sleep directly on the ice, though–there’ s a wooden plank between the ice and a comfy mattress, plus you’re insulated with a special sleeping bag that can withstand the harshest climes (-40 degrees Fahrenheit).

The Miesrolo Chair by Uros Vitas is made of wood sections strategically placed on synthetic elastomer. The result is a cantilevered chair–that rolls up like sushi–which possesses the strength to support a grown human being.

Made of carved British Oak and given a bison coat wax polish to give it an opulent feel but luxury is limited to viewing an unusual product rather than experiencing it.

Since its first appearance, the Up series, designed in 1969, has been one of the most outstanding expressions of design.

The Paddy Chair is described by designer Nick Melville as “a comfy chair for nutters.” As you might have guessed, Melville’s inspiration for the piece is the classic padded cell. The enclosed shape is intended to promote a sense of safety and security for the user and offer a place where one can relax in peace and quiet.

Rather than cramming your empty suitcase into the closet, why not turn it into a functional chair? That’s exactly how this nifty transforming suitcase works.

Well, this chair is definitely one of the creepier pieces of furniture we’ve ever saw

A very unique chair indeed and very nicely crafted.

The Burst Chair is the creation of young Brittish designer. Oliver Tilbury has won some awards for the Burst Chair.

This unique chair’s vision came from plucking the petals of a flower during an idealistic moment. The contour of the 2 remaining petals gave form to the chair and confirmed that even asymmetrically, nature is beautifully balanced!Ther is a wood version and a metal version.

Vasa Intestina, the first version was created in 2007, by Lisa Jones. The chair is part of the Symbiosis chair series. It doesn’t look too comfortable, but it has a nice design.

The Tank Chair was inspired by it’s builder working at a machine rental store. It looks like it would be pretty easy to move around your patio or deck, as long as you don’t need to move it laterally.

This char id designed by designer Nils Holger Moormann. Bookinist is a movable chair designed especially for reading. It is based on the principle of a pushcart and can be rolled to a favorite spot.Bookinist invites you to read and think at your leisure.

This Bubble Chair by Eero Aarnio , Based on the idea of the Ball Chair the Bubble Chair is a reduction of this design. As Ludwig Mies van der Rohe said: Less is more! A masterpiece of reduction.

This is Fauteuil Chair by Aranda/Lasch, cardboard study.

Creative chair by Revol Design made from scraps of douglas fir and 3,726 drywall screws.

The Cabbage Chair was created by Nendo for the the XXIst Cetury Man exhibition curated by Issey Miyake to commemorate the first anniversary of 21_21 Design Sight in Roppongi, Tokyo. The chair is made entirely out of industrial paper.

The Rocking Wheel Chair by Mathias Koehler also made it to the list. It’s futuristic alright. However, it appears to take up a lot of space and lacks arm support.

Unique chair made from cut paper by Charles Kaisin.
